RAVI SHANKAR T-SHIRT
To their millions of fans the world over, they were the Fab Four. But to sitar virtuoso Pt. Ravi Shankar, The Beatles — John, Paul, George and Ringo — were “essentially good boys” who wanted to learn more about Indian classical music. George Harrison was the only Beatle who actually took lessons from Shankar, incorporating the sitar into his music both within and outside of the band.
In a March 1968 interview, Shankar was sparing in his praise for his famous pupil, saying he did not know how Harrison would “shape up in the future”. The duo, however, went on to have a fruitful musical partnership that flourished over two decades, across albums and the iconic benefit events known as ‘Concert for Bangladesh’.
