Description
In this Hindustan Times photo dated 18th July 1953, Tenzing Norgay is seen with 10-inch models of himself and Edmund Hillary, made in a London factory. A mere month-and-a-half before this photograph was taken, Norgay and Hillary had summited Mount Everest, becoming the first climbers to do so. Norgay had spent 15 minutes on top of Everest, “taking photos and eating mint cake”. A devout Buddhist, he also left an offering of food atop the summit.
