Description
‘Vintage Ads’ Coaster Set
Colonial-era India was among the largest exporters of goods from post-Industrial Revolution Britain. Over time, therefore, British firms had steadily stepped up their advertising in India, especially in newspapers.
The advertisements of this era have an Anglophilic bent, both in terms of language and imagery. Some are aimed at expatriates; others appeal to the aspirations of locals.
This set of four coasters brings together advertisements that appeared in the pages of the Hindustan Times in the late 1920s. Two of the products are from homegrown brands; the others capitalise on their English origins.
